Sol Gabetta

Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France

Hilary Hahn has to cancel due to illness, but Sol Gabetta is coming - with a great, late-romantic work. The warmth and passion in Sol Gabetta's cello tone is perfectly suited to Edward Elgar's cello concerto. The English composer became world-famous for his “Pomp and Circumstance” march, which celebrates the British Empire and is something like the unofficial English national anthem. Elgar's cello concerto is no less rousing, but of a different character. The days of the Empire were coming to an end when Elgar composed the Cello Concerto. He sensed this and translated his mood into one last, great work. Like looking back in the last rays of sunshine of a long day: it is no wonder that musicians like Sol Gabetta, who put all their passion into every note, love this cello concerto in particular. It has become Elgar's legacy.
