Martin Stadtfeld
Sunday matinee
A matinee featuring Bach and Chopin, Brahms and Wagner, Beethoven and Stadtfeld: the latter pairing is especially engaging, since the pianist himself has composed a fantasy on a sketch by the young Beethoven. The secret conversation, the moment of fulfillment that is immortalized in Albumblatt form the essence of this program. Character pieces framed by Beethoven's "Appassionata" Sonata and music by Bach. Sketches, monologues, and snapshots inspired by Bach's preludes and intended by the Romantics to contrast with Beethoven's expansive architectures. A program for the desert island, skilfully put together by Stadtfeld.
