Summer Gala with Joyce DiDonato

Yannick Nézet-Séguin, London Symphony Orchestra

This Summer Gala is sure to be the talk of the town. The legendary London Symphony Orchestra will do the honors, with our friend Yannick Nézet-Séguin, chief conductor of New York's Metropolitan Opera, leading from the podium. The incomparable "Yankee Diva" Joyce DiDonato will sing orchestral songs by Berlioz, followed by Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony. Berlioz's songs and Tchaikovsky's Symphony are both night pieces, whose composers represent two successive generations: Berlioz conjures the image of a graveyard under the full moon, while Tchaikovsky, in the third movement, celebrates street parades festively lit by the gas lamps of the big city.

Program

Hector Berlioz
Les Nuits d’été, op. 7 for voice and orchestra

Peter Tchaikovsky
Symphony No. 6 in B minor, op. 74 (“Pathétique”)

Estimated end time: 21:00
