Stiftskirche Baden-Baden
The construction of the collegiate church dates back to the 13th century, making it the oldest church in Baden-Baden. In the 15th century, the Romanesque building was extended into a Gothic hall church, which underwent repeated structural changes over the following centuries.
One of the most important works of art in the church is the monumental sandstone cross by Nikolaus Gerhaert von Leyden (1467), an outstanding example of Gothic sculptural art.
Also worth mentioning are the late Gothic sacrament house (around 1490) as well as a seated Madonna made of lime wood (14th century) and a late Gothic Madonna and Child made of sandstone (around 1500).
Until the Baden-Baden line died out in 1793, the collegiate church was the burial place of the margravial family, as evidenced by the many elaborately designed memorial plaques in the choir of the church.
